2006-2007 Chevrolet Silverado AIRAID Cold Air Intake Increases Horsepower and Torque

The 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was introduced during the last year of the vehicle’s first generation models. It was a carry-over of the 2005 model and included an extended and crew cab variants in an LS and LT trim. Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions were available. All models including the SS and 1500 featured four-doors and could accommodate up to six passengers. A 4.3-liter V6 engine that supplied 195-horsepower or a 4.8-liter V8 that produced 285-horsepower powered the vehicle.
The second generation of the Chevrolet Silverado was available from 2007 through 2014 and included the SS Classic, the 3500 Classic, the 1500 Classic and 1500 Heavy Duty, and the 2500 Heavy Duty. Although a totally new Chevrolet Silverado was introduced in 2007, the former Silverado continued to be offered as the Silverado Classic. The Classic was available in several cab styles, bed lengths and came in two specialized alternatives –- a hybrid and high performance SS. The Silverado Classic models do not vary much from the equivalent 2006 Silverado models except for a few minor feature changes and a different transmission – a 5-speed manual transmission, which was offered with the V6. The Silverado Classics were available as a two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and included a regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab. Short beds measured 6-1/2-feet and long beds were 8-feet. A 4.3-liter V6, 4.8-liter V8, a 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.0-liter V8 were available to power the 1500 Classic. The Silverado 1500 HD was a cross between a light duty 1500 and the medium-to-heavy-duty 2500HD. It was available as a crew cab with a 6-foot, 6-inch bed and could haul 3,129 pounds in two-wheel drive, 2,838 pounds in four-wheel drive and towed up to 10,300 pounds. A 6.0-liter V8 powered the vehicle. The Silverado Classics included an AM/FM stereo, tilt steering, drive information center, a chromed front bumper, painter rear step bumper, and 17-inch painted steel wheels. The LS was the basic trim that added air conditioning, cruise control, a CD player, cloth rather than vinyl upholstery and more options. The LS extended cab included automatic transmission and the crew cab was available with a 4.8-liter V8.
The LT is the more luxurious of the trims. It included carpeting, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power windows, locks and mirrors. A 5.3-liter V8 engine powered the Crew Cab LT. The Silverado Classic SS is a performance model with a 6.0-liter Vortec 6000 engine that produces 345-horsepower. It also included a high-performance Z60 chassis. Available as options were 20-inch wheels and tires and a special exterior and interior package. It was offered as both a two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The AIRAID 201-186 cold air dam intake system is designed specifically for the Chevrolet Silverado models discussed. The kit retains the original location of the air filter, but also delivers big boosts of air due to a huge open-element air inlet that is protected by cold air dam panels that assist in supplying steady, free-flowing cooler outside air into the engine. It is designed so that the panels mount in the factory air box location and uses any factory cold air inlet ducts that may be present. In addition, it offers additional cold air passages to the filter. The panels protect the air filter from the hot engine compartment air by sealing to the underside of the hood with blade-style weather stripping.
