The AIRAID 202-187 cold air dam air intake is designed to fit the 2006 Silverado 2500HD and 3500 as well as the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500 classic. The 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is a rear-wheel drive, ¾-ton pickup that is 18-feet, 6.1-inches in length; 6-feet, 7.7-inches wide; and 6-feet, 4.2-inches tall with a wheelbase of 11-feet, 1-inch. A 6.0-liter V8, which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, powers the truck and delivers 300-horsepower and 360 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm. The one-ton 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 comes in three trims –- a base, LS and LT. A so-called Work Truck model was also available. Four engines were offered to power the pickup –- a V-8 that generated 300-horsepower, an 8.1-liter gasoline V8 and a Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 that delivers 300-horsepower with a manual transmission or 310-horsepower when mated to an automatic transmission. Two automatic and two manual transmissions were available. Later in the model year a new Duramax 6.6-liter diesel V-8 engine that produced 360-horsepower and 650 lbs-ft of torque and an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission was unveiled.
The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is a heavy-duty truck designed for work. The crew cab features a standard-length box and the truck measures 20-feet long; more than 6.5-feet wide and a little less than 6.5-feet tall. It is distinguished from the 2500 light-duty model by a larger grille, more prominent hood bulges, and more chrome on the bumper. Designed to perform serious work, the truck includes a super-firm suspension that limits body roll when cornering and offers a jarring ride on rough roads when the truck is not loaded. Two engines were available to power the truck –- a 6.0-liter V-8 gasoline engine that delivers 353-horsepower at 5400 rpm and 373 lbs-ft of torque at 4400 rpm, which serves with a Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission; and a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 that delivers 365-horsepower at 3200 rpm and 660 lbs-ft of torque at 1600 rpm. This engine is mated to an Ultra-low sulfur diesel Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission. Payload and trailer-towing capacity of the 2500HD varies widely depending on the configuration. However, one four-wheel drive, crew-cab standard box tester with the Duramax diesel V-8 experienced a payload rating of 2,482 pounds and a maximum trailer rating of 13,000 pounds with a regular ball hitch. A trailer-break controller for use with trailers that feature electrically controlled brakes was available as an option. The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic is actually a previous generation 3500. The full-size, one-ton truck was available in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive in regular, crew and extended cabs with a choice of a short 6.6-foot bed or an 8-foot bed. Five trim levels were available including the class Work Truck, LS, 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT, which included more equipment as standard. Three V-8 engines power the 3500 Classic including a 6.0-liter V8, which delivers 300-horsepower and is connected to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission; an 8.1-liter V8 that delivers 330-horsepower and which includes an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission; and a Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 that produces 360-horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque and uses an Allison automatic transmission. The 202-187 AIRAID cold air dam air intake is designed for the previous mentioned Silverado models. The intake uses the original location of the air filter but delivers a big boost of air due to a huge open-element air inlet that is protected by cold air dam panels that assures that a steady, free-flowing supply of cooler outside air reaches the engine. The panels mount in the factory air box location and incorporate the factory cold air inlet ducts if they are present. Moreover, it provides additional cold air passages to the filter. The panels isolate the air filter from the hot air of the engine compartment by sealing to the underside of the hood using blade-style weather stripping. The 360° tapering AIRAID air filter is washable and reusable, less restrictive than other types of filters and assures excellent filtration. AIRAID also offers the AIRAID 790-558 air filter cleaning kit that is specially formulated to clean the premium dry air filter in the AIRAID 202-187 air intake. The cleaning kit can be used to cleanse the air filter after 30,000 to 50,000 miles of normal driving. After cleaning, the air filter can be re-installed into the air intake system for more use.
