AIRAID Air Intake Modified 2012 Toyota Tundra is a Work in Progress at SEMA

“Growing up I was the recipient of hand me down vehicles from my parents,” he explained. “I inherited a 1986 Honda Accord that didn’t have many aftermarket products built for it. My friends were modifying their cars and I wanted to do the same with mine. So I learned how to do it with help from my father, who was a mechanic.” “When I was younger I taught myself how to install sound systems by reading articles and books on the subject,” he said. “I made and installed a ported subwoofer box and Infinity speakers in the Honda.” He spent time in his parents’ small one car garage learning how to modify existing Honda parts or constructing his own. “Everything was done in a small one car garage. So I had to be well organized and innovative. I didn’t have a big lift like shops had,” he said. Eventually his interest in the Honda waned and he began thinking about doing his magic on a pickup truck.
After a reasonable amount of time checking out the Tundra, he bought a stock 2012 model and took it off-road. “It rode really rough and I couldn’t drive through various terrain like what others could do with their trucks. So I decided that the first stage would be to improve the suspension,” he said. He created a mid-travel suspension using King Racing Shocks with remote reservoir on the front and rear, Total Chaos Upper Control Arms on the front and an Ekstrom Designs Coachbuilder shackle lift. He next focused on the wheels and tires. After taking some time to research manufacturers of these products he settled on Centerline RT2MX Alloy Wheels and 35x12.5x20 Cooper Discoverer tires. Integrating storage that could accommodate things necessary for camping was the next stage of the work in progress. Again Ho identified the top manufacturers of that segment of the market, researched products and settled on a Snugtop Xtra Vision Bed Shell and Front Runner Slim Line Roof Rack with spare tire mount and a BOLT cable lock. The bed also includes a Viair 2on2 Bolt-On Compressor Kit and Bedrug bed liner with LED lights.
An NFab Radius Pre-Runner front bumper with 30-inch GG Lighting LED light bar replaced the stock front bumper and an NFAB RBS rear bumper with 6-inch GG Lighting light bar replaced the stock rear bumper. GG Lighting G3 Single Row LED light bars were also added to the sides. Spyder Projector smoked lens headlights and a Torcia Auto sequential smoked lens LED taillight package were installed. A new Royalty Core RCRX LED race line grill with 20-inch GG Lighting LED light bar finished the lighting stage of the project. Easier access into the cab made it essential to add AMP Research Power Steps with custom LED lighting. Ho figured he might need the capability to pull and tow off road vehicles. So he included a Fastway Trailer tow hitch with a Flash ball mount and BOLT Locks hitch receiver lock. The only addition necessary to give the exterior a needed badass finish was the tinted windows provided by Formula 1 Film by the Tint Pros. Once the Tundra had a heavy-duty suspension makeover, there was no way Ho would ignore boosting the performance capability of the vehicle. An AIRAID 511-213 air intake system, Dual 10-inch Widow Maker Black Widow Exhaust mufflers with Black Widow cross pipe, Bully Dog Tuner, an engine bay and bed mounted Odyssey dual battery package, and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) big brake kit were also included.
The interior of the Tundra has not been neglected either. In fact, it is rather blush with Katzkin leather seats, suede covering on the doors, BMW-style LED interior door handles, and Whistler Group Pro-3600 laser radar detector and dash camera. A 4x4 SPOD eight-switch LCD touchscreen controls all the off-road lighting. For Ho’s personal entertainment, there is a CT Sounds audio system that includes Pro Audio 6.5-inch components in the front and Meso 6.5-inch components in the rear, 125.4-watt four-channel amplifier, and 12-inch dual Strato subwoofers powered by a 1400-watt amplifier. He continues to add products. For Example, Ho expects to include a 6-inch suspension lift and the 3rd Generation Toyota Tundra Body Conversion Kit in 2017.
It has also been featured in the Gear Section and in an Atturo Tires ad in Lftd & Lvld Magazine.
