2007 - 2009 Toyota Tundra or Sequoia Gets More Power with AIRAID Performance Intake

TOYOTA TUNDRA Performance Air Intake

The AIRAID 512-223 cold air dam performance intake is engineered to create more horsepower and torque in the Tundra 4.7L and Sequoia 4.7L.

In Europe, small sedans and hatchbacks are all the rage, while Chinese customers prefer extended wheelbase sedans with distinctive grilles. American buyers like full-size trucks and SUVs, so Toyota created the 2007-2009 Toyota Tundra and 2007-2009 Toyota Sequoia exclusively for the U.S. market. The Tundra featured nearly 50 cab-bed-drivetrain configurations, along with headrests that could accommodate a man wearing a hard hat. The Sequoia took aim at market stalwarts like the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition, but utilized an independent rear suspension for better handling, and the durable build quality that Toyota had become known for. Both trucks came standard with the Toyota 4.7L V8, which made a more-than-adequate 276-hp and 313 lb-ft of torque. However, adding an AIRAID 512-223 cold air dam intake can increase those numbers, along with the capability of your truck.

TOYOTA SEQUOIA Performance Air Intake

If you regularly drive in dirty/dusty environments, the AIRAID pre-filter wrap can protect your air filter from fine dirt, and extend the cleaning intervals.

Toyota's stellar reputation stems from decades of building small cars, with reliable engines. V8's were a relatively new venture, but the 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 worked perfectly in these big American trucks. But no matter how sophisticated these torque-y engines are, they still make power just like every other internal combustion engine: gas and air get injected into the cylinders, then a spark plug ignites the mixture and the resulting explosion forces the piston down. This downward energy (aka horsepower) turns the crankshaft, sending fluid pressure to the transmission, which ultimately turns the drive wheels. If you want to increase this energy, you simply need to inject lots of cold air into the cylinders, so that fuel detonation can burn hotter. The extra oxygen molecules in the cold air allow the combustion cycle to extract more energy/horsepower from the fuel, giving you more power at low RPMs, and faster throttle response.

The AIRAID 512-223 cold air intake is designed to deliver cold air to the motor, by replacing the restrictive stock intake system with a high volume cold air intake that provides cleaner air, in a smooth, turbulence-free flow. To do this, an oversized AIRAID SynthaMax synthetic air filter is mounted in place of the stock air box, and surrounded by a powder-coated heat shield. A special top-mounted weatherstrip seals against the hood when it's closed, creating a cold air chamber to feed the throttle body. The reusable AIRAID performance air filter can collect and hold dirt for 30,000-50,000 miles (depending on road conditions), and the wide-diameter AIRAID intake tube takes the extra air collected by the filter, and sends it to the motor in a steady stream. This allows the Toyota 4.7L V8 to make more power when you step on the gas, and it reduces engine strain when you're towing or hauling. Plus, the integrated sensor fittings in the intake tube allow you to install the entire system in about 90 minutes, with simple hand tools.

AIRAID also makes other Toyota performance parts that can increase the capability and efficiency of your truck. To explore your options, input your year/make/model into the AIRAID search by vehicle tool, or you can locate an AIRAID dealer near you using the dealer locator tool.

2007-2010 Chevy Silverado 2500HD -3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD -3500HD AIRAID Air Intake

CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 Cold Air Intake

AIRAID’s CAD system for 2007-2010 GM trucks with Duramax diesel engines offers a more affordable option for budget-conscious owners looking to improve power and efficiency on 2500HD and 3500HD applications.

Owners of 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 GM trucks equipped with the 6.6L Duramax engine know the trucks were built for hauling, and most of them work their trucks hard. The V-8 Duramax offers great power and mountains of torque, which is perfect for towing anything from a big camper on vacation to a backhoe to the jobsite. Diesels were meant to work, but they also demand enormous amounts of air to get all of those heavy loads moving. The factory intake systems on these trucks do a good job of filtering outside air, but they place a priority on quiet engine operation over keeping the engine supplied with unlimited amounts of cold air. Knowing the extreme demands that diesel engines can place on a stock intake system, AIRAID has developed a full line of cold air intake systems that are designed to improve airflow to Duramax engines without sacrificing filtration. AIRAID’s top-of-the-line MXP cold air intakes often grab the majority of the attention, but AIRAID offers some more affordable alternatives with the cold air dam (CAD) intake system for 2007-2010 GM Duramax-powered trucks.

AIRAID Intake Filter

The air filter used with this system was specifically developed to handle the enormous airflow needs of diesel engines. The 720-472 filter has traditional oiled filter media in red, while the same filter style is also available with SynthaMax dry filter media in red, blue, or black.

When comparing AIRAID’s 200-219 MXP system to the 200-215 CAD system, it’s easy to see why the MXP system is usually the one attracts attention. To be sure, it’s feature-packed, with a new intake tube, roto-molded air box, and other premium components. If budget is not a main concern, then the MXP system is a fantastic choice. But for those looking to improve power and efficiency on a budget, it’s hard to go wrong with AIRAID’s CAD system.

The AIRAID CAD system for 2007-2010 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD targets the most restrictive portions of the factory intake system: the air box and the filter. As mentioned earlier, the factory system was designed around quieting engine noise, and as a result it contains baffles that hinder airflow, so engine performance can suffer. The AIRAID system starts by replacing the factory air box with cold air dam panels, which keep the air filter isolated from hot engine compartment air while unshrouding the engine intake in order to improve airflow.   These panels make use of the factory cold air inlet duct but also add a massive amount of additional forward-facing surface area for additional cool outside air to reach the filter without restriction. A filter adapter mounts to the panels and connects to the factory intake tube, but the adapter also includes a velocity stack to further promote airflow.

Positioned inside the cold air dam panels is the heart of the AIRAID system: the premium air filter. The system is available with a traditional oiled filter in red (200-215), or with a SynthaMax dry filter in red (201-215), blue (203-215), or black (202-215). The filter was developed specifically for Duramax applications and makes use of all the available space in order to maximize the amount of surface area for filter media. The larger the surface area, the greater the volume of air that a filter is capable of flowing without introducing restrictions. Because the filter is so large, the AIRAID CAD system works well with both stock applications and ones that have been upgraded with other performance-enhancing modifications, such as a larger turbo. The filter used in the CAD system is identical to the one in AIRAID’s MXP system. Though the MXP system offers several more features, the AIRAID CAD system is perfect for budget-conscious applications.

GMC SIERRA 3500 HD Cold Air Intake

AIRAID’s options for 2007-2010 GM Duramax diesel trucks includes the 203-215 intake featured in this article and the 200-219 MXP system pictured. The MXP system offers a lot of additional features, but the CAD system represents great bang for the buck.

The 200-215, 201-215, 202-215, and 203-215 AIRAID CAD systems are available for the following vehicle applications, all of which have a CARB EO number D-609-5 and are therefore legal to use in all 50 states:

The 2010 Ford Mustang V6 Gets More Power with The AIRAID MXP Intake

2010 FORD MUSTANG Performance Air Intake

The AIRAID 452-245 MXP performance intake is designed to give your Ford Mustang some serious pony power.

When the Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964, it literally started a revolution. This pony car was the first sporty vehicle that young people could actually afford. GM and Chrysler were several years away from offering anything competitive, so Ford was able sell as many as they could build. It was also the first mass production car to offer individual options, allowing buyers to choose the exact equipment that they wanted regardless of the trim line. If somebody wanted a fuel efficient 6-cylinder, with racing stripes and bucket seats, they'd just tick the right boxes, pay the money, and their personalized pony car would be built to order. Fast forward 46 years, and the 2010 Ford Mustang V6 offered the same individuality options, along with the affordable performance of a Ford 4.0L V6. It has 210-hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, which offers sprightly performance and decent fuel economy. However, adding an AIRAID 452-245 MXP performance intake will increase horsepower and torque, giving your pony car some real horsepower.

AIRAD 2010 FORD MUSTANG Cold Air Intake

AIRAID pre-filter wrap is designed to protect your air filter in extremely dirty/dusty environments.

An internal combustion engine makes power by burning a mixture of fuel and air inside of the cylinders. This is accomplished by igniting the gas with a spark plug, and the resulting explosion consumes the air, forcing the piston down, turning the crankshaft, and ultimately the wheels. To increase the energy/horsepower that gets released during detonation, you simply have to add a high volume of cold air to the fuel/air mix. The additional oxygen molecules inside the cold air will cause a more forceful detonation, which allows the Ford Mustang V6 to create more power from roughly the same amount of fuel. The AIRAID 452-245 MXP performance intake is designed to deliver a steady supply of cold air to the engine.

Utilizing the stock intake location, the AIRAID 452-245 MXP intake replaces the restricted factory air box with a free-flowing synthetic AIRAID performance air filter, surrounded by a self-sealing heat shield. When the hood is closed, a special strip of heat-resistant weather stripping seals against the underside of the hood to prevent warm engine bay air from entering the system. This allows the oversized SynthaMax filter to collect the coldest air coming up from beneath engine bay. That air is then cleaned by the dual-layer synthetic filter media, and the dirt is stored inside the material to prevent clogging (it only needs to be cleaned every 30,000-50,000 miles, depending on road conditions). The clean air is then funneled to the engine through a wide-diameter AIRAID intake tube, that's been roto-molded to reduce turbulence and smooth out the airflow. It also has integrated fittings for the factory mass air flow (MAF) sensor and PCV vent tube. Thanks to its innovative design, this AIRAID cold air intake can be installed in about 90 minutes, using just simple hand tools.

2015-2016 Ford F-150 with the Coyote 5.0L V8 Howls with an AIRAID MXP Intake

2016 FORD F150 Air Intake

The AIRAID 401-293 MXP performance intake is designed to increase both horsepower and torque in the Ford Coyote 5.0L V8.

When it was first launched in the late 1960's, the Ford 5.0L V8 was just another V8 engine to appease a power-hungry public. Decades later, the Ford 302 powered everything from police cars and ambulances to Mustangs and F-150s. It was a mechanical legend that deserved an equally formidable replacement. Fittingly, the Ford 5.0L second generation came in 2011 when they launched the Coyote 5.0L V8, which was nearly identical in size to the outgoing 4.6L V8. The new motor featured lots of innovations like 4-valves per cylinder, and a new variable camshaft timing system that could improve fuel economy by instantly adjusting output based on RPMs. The 2015-2016 Ford F-150 got a torque-centric version of this motor that allowed it to perform/haul/tow better than its competitors, without burning more fuel in the process. A lot of technology has been used to make the Ford Coyote 5.0L V8 the perfect 8-cylinder motor for the 21st century. And now you can harness some high performance technology of your own, with the AIRAID 401-293 MXP performance intake.

AIRAID 2016 FORD F150 Cold Air Intake Dyno Chart

Dyno results for a 2015 Ford F-150 running the AIRAID 401-293 MXP intake system showed an estimated increase of 19-hp and 26 lb-ft.

Unlike most cold air intake systems, the AIRAID 401-293 MXP performance intake uses a special closed filter chamber, with a large diameter snorkel that funnels air directly into the high-flow SynthaMax air filter. The advantage is the performance air filter is completely sealed off and unable to ingest any hot air from the engine bay. Since cold air contains more oxygen molecules than warm air, the Coyote 5.0L is able to extract more power, by creating a hotter detonation with the cold air. The sealed AIRAID MXP intake system collects a much larger volume of cold air from outside the engine bay, then delivers it to the engine through a low-restriction intake tube. Plus, both the snorkel and roto-molded AIRAID MXP air box are located in place of the stock intake system, so no under-hood modifications are required. Installation takes about 90 minutes and this AIRAID cold air intake system is street legal in all 50 states.

Another benefit of the AIRAID 401-293 MXP performance intake is increased airflow. By eliminating the tight bends and narrow passages of the OE F-150 5.0L intake, your F-150 5.0L is able to get more cold air, faster. This allows it to make horsepower and torque at lower RPMs, which in turn, gives you faster throttle response. Of course, that's all speculation without proof. Which is why AIRAID tested the 401-293 MXP intake system on a stock 2015 Ford F-150 5.0L, and found that it made an estimated increase of 19-hp and 26 lb-ft. But naturally, your individual results may vary, based on the mileage, modifications, and condition of your specific Ford F-150.

Thanks to the verified performance and made in America build quality, the AIRAID 401-293 MXP performance intake is backed by the AIRAID No-Hassle Lifetime Warranty. In addition, you'll be able to save money on replacement air filters because the supplied AIRAID SynthaMax synthetic air filter can go up to 30,000-50,000 miles before it needs to be cleaned. And don't forget, AIRAID also makes an entire line of Ford F-150 performance parts, which you can view by using the AIRAID search by vehicle tool, or you can use the dealer locator tool to find your local AIRAID retailer.

Derek West Overcomes Adversity at 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway

Derek West 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway

Derek West in #4420, backed by AIRAID, overcame mechanical challenges to finish 12th in a field of 58 at the 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway, June 10-11.

As the third event of the 2016 Ultra4 National Championship series and the Trail-Gear Western Regionals' last visit to Southern California for the year, the 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway June 10-11 drew more than 100 competitors, with a whopping 58 qualifiers in the 4400 class.

4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway

The Grand Prix format at Glen Helen combines three different off-road tracks: short course, motocross, and enduro. Competitors run their own race under timing. Drivers are sent out in pairs at 5-second intervals.

This is one stop on the road to earning an invitation to the 2017 King of the Hammers competition, as well as accumulate points toward the Nitto National Championship.

The grand prix format at Glen Helen combines short course, motocross, and enduro tracks and each competitor runs their own race under timing. Drivers are sent out in pairs at 5-second intervals. The winner is the driver who completes the most laps in that class' time frame. Practice and qualifying were colorful as racers learned the grooves of Glen Helen, making it through wet patches and drifting some corners.

AIRAID driver Derek West, of Springfield, Missouri, in car #4420, winner of the 2014 Ultra4 Eastern Championship and class winner at the Badlands Off Road Park event in 2015, had a tough weekend mechanically, but came up smiling at the end.

Derek West and co-driver Nick Cooper 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway

West and co-driver Nick Cooper drove a smooth race, passing 11 cars to make it into fourth place by lap 15 of the 20-lap race.

After not being able to make the best qualifying lap on Friday evening he had to start in 21st place in the second prelim on Saturday. Knowing the top 18 transferred to the main the plan was to just make a solid six laps not taking any unnecessary risks. West passed 13 cars in six laps, securing a 15th starting position for the main.

Starting the main in the 8th row, West and co-driver Nick Cooper were extremely steady through the first six laps, turning laps times within seconds of the leaders and successfully negotiating traffic. However, in lap seven, something in the front end let go and a radio discussion of the need for a pit stop ensued. Their lap times faltered minimally, so they circulated for nine more laps in two-wheel drive and made it into fourth place by lap 15 of the 20-lap race.

Dereck West WORRA 250 at Fallon, Nevada

After battling from 15th to 4th, a failure induced pit stop to repair the rear master cylinder actuator rod, caused #4420 to lose precious time and left him in 12th at the end of the race.

Then the rear master cylinder actuator rod decided it didn't like being a part of this awesome performance any longer. It's supposed to be straight but instead it worked itself into a z-shape and bound against the firewall. The crew managed to bend the rod somewhat straight again, and sent them on their way.

With only five laps left in the race when they pitted, there wasn't much time to make up the two laps lost in the pit. At the finish, the car that was behind West before the failure ended up on top of the podium and West crossed the line in 12th place. He will be repaired and back at it less than two weeks in the Ultra4s at the Badlands.

The next stops for most Ultra4 competitors are the second and third 4WD Hardware Eastern Regional Series events, June 24-25 at Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Indiana, followed by Sturgis on July 29-30. The Trail-Gear Western Regional Series concludes September 2-3 with the WORRA 250 at Fallon, Nevada.
